Jos Verstappen is a former professional racing driver and is well-known as the father of reigning F1 World Champion Max Verstappen. Jos is a popular figure in the racing circuit and is given the credit for being the architect in shaping his son’s racing career. Jos himself was a successful racer during his time and competed in Formula One for six seasons besides participating in various other categories of professional racing.
Verstappen made his F1 debut with the Benetton team at the 1994 Brazilian Grand Prix. During his six-year-long F1 career, Verstappen has represented multiple teams including Benetton, Simtek, Footwork, Tyrrell, Stewart, Arrows and Minardi. Although his F1 career didn’t turn out to be overwhelming, Verstappen did register two podium finishes in 107 races. However, he never registered a win in his F1 career. The 2003 Japanese Grand Prix was the last race of the Dutch driver’s F1 career.
Besides Formula One, Verstappen was very successful in other events of the FIA. He was the German Formula Three Champion and the Masters of Formula Three winner in 1993. Verstappen also participated in the 24 Hours of Le Mans series in the 2008 season with Van Merksteijn Motorsport and in 2009 with Aston Martin. He retired from professional racing at the end of the 2009 season.
