Jose Aldo might be on a bit of a slide at the moment but the Brazilian is one of the greatest to have ever taken up the MMA gloves.

Aldo will go down as the inaugural UFC Featherweight champion and has held the belt twice. He might be remembered for the 13-second loss to Conor McGregor but there is a lot that Aldo has done for the sport.

The Brazilian was born into poverty and even an early scary accident didn’t stop him from becoming the best at a time.

Aldo has spoken about the car he had on his face, however, the Brazilian also won the title for WEC before coming to the UFC.

Aldo is a keen football fan and wanted to play the sport, but was often beat up. He grew tired and started training in capoeira to learn how to defend himself.

That love grew further as he gained the attention of a jiu-jitsu trainer and he started learning that too.

Aldo made $36,000 when he won the Featherweight title and then his UFC numbers started to kick in. His salary after losing against Max Holloway was $230,000 at UFC 218.

On his UFC debut, Aldo got a pay out of $177,000 for the win over Mark Hominick.

His next big pay out was against Frankie Edgar where he got $290,000 for the win. The win over Chad Mendes also got him $350,000 and the loss to Conor McGregor earned him a pay out of $440,000.

The rematch against Edgar, where Aldo won the interim title, netted him $515,000. His fight, against Petr Yan, saw him earn $430,000 despite losing out in the Bantamweight title bout.
