Jose Canseco and Esther Haddad married in 1988. That same year, Canseco became Major League Baseball‘s Most Valuable Player and soon after, their best-paid.
Esther is of Lebanese descent from her father’s side and Cuban from her mother’s. Jose was coached by Esther’s father in junior high. The duo dated for quite a few years before tying the knot. They got married in Coral Gables, a small town in Florida. Both of them repeated their vows in front of 250 people at a Roman Catholic event.
Esther was Miss Miami in 1986. Canseco was at the Scandinavian Health Club in Miami. It took the player a while to get Esther to go out with him. Canseco won a $10,000 bet with his teammate, Dave Stewart for getting married before their deadline on 5 November 1988.
The couple’s marriage turned upside down very fast with Canseco charged with aggravated battery even. It was the former outfielder who ended the marriage just after four years in 1992. According to Esther’s lawyer, Canseco never even revealed the reason behind asking for a divorce.
Plenty of complications arose, regarding property settlements. During their time together, the couple owned a $1.55 million home in Coral Gables, a $1.3 million house in Contra Costa County and a townhouse in San Ramon. They also owned a Porsche 928, a Porsche 930, a Ferrari Testarossa and a Toyota Four Runner.
Jessica Canseco was Jose Canseco’s second wife who wrote the autobiography “Juicy: Confessions of a Former Baseball Wife”. She also married Garth Fisher and starred in Hollywood Exes.
