Manchester United have submitted a £44m bid to sign Croatian winger Ante Rebic, who currently plays for Eintracht Frankfurt. The World Cup runner-up has caught manager Jose Mourinho’s eye and is expected to move to Old Trafford if the fee is accepted.
The 24-year-old Croat was impressive in the recently concluded World Cup, as he played a crucial role in his country’s march to the final. He seems like the perfect fit for United since he possesses the required qualities to be a success story in the Premier League.
The Red Devils have also been in talks to sign Brazilian winger Willian from Chelsea to bolster their forward line. However, it will be realistic for the club to sign Rebic and scrap the idea of swooping in for Willian.
After all, the Brazilian is quite inconsistent and had a lukewarm World Cup which will further degrade his confidence. In contrast, Rebic is beaming with self-belief after performing well in Russia.
Here’s everything you need to know about the Croatian and why he can be a hit at Manchester United:
Rebic is a powerful forward who can perform various roles in the front-line and exhibit great tenacity to be a nuisance for the defenders. The 24-year-old moves around diligently even without possession to create space for his teammates.
He played as a winger for Croatia in the World Cup and was imperious in moving up and down the pitch. Rebic has been deployed across several positions at Frankfurt by his country-mate Niko Kovac, but he predominantly occupies the wide attacking spots.
Rebic can dribble past people at a rate of 1.5 per game in the Bundesliga, enabling him to create space for a shot or a cross. Furthermore, the Croat is diligent enough to track back and help the defenders.
He epitomizes his country’s footballing character by showing will and guts to fight it out until the final whistle and it is clear that he has a never-say-die attitude. Overall, he is a feisty character and his attributes do fit the bill under Mourinho at Manchester United.

Rebic’s consistency and determination make him an ideal choice for the Red Devils. He is a quality player with and without the ball and is a better all-around player when compared to Willian. Hence, it would be wise for United to snap the Croat up instead of the Brazilian.
