Why Arsenal should do everything possible to sign Miguel Almiron
Arsenal are interested in signing Newcastle United star Miguel Almiron this summer, as per journalist Luis Enrique Perez, who was speaking on Paraguayan radio station Radio 1º de Marzo and their Deporte Total programme. (h/t The Express)
Miguel Almiron, 26, joined Newcastle United from Atlanta United in January 2019 in then a club-record £20million deal. After scoring his first club goal in over a year against Crystal Palace in December, the Paraguayan international is now the Magpies’ top scorer with six goals.
Inter Milan are also said to be interested in the 26-year-old playmaker, who has a contract at St. James’ Park until 2024. (h/t The Express)
Meanwhile, Arsenal look to have revamped themselves under the tutelage of Mikel Arteta and there is a lot of difference in their approach now. However, if they are to put in a tremendous display and fight for the Premier League title next campaign, Arteta has to make adjustments to his squad in the summer.
One area the Gunners boss should address is the attack. The North London giants have failed to score a healthy number of goals in the league, managing only 40 in 28 games. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is Arsenal’s top scorer this season, with 20 goals across competitions. However, the Gabonese forward will have just one year left on his current deal when the season ends.
Aubameyang’s strike partner, Alexandre Lacazette, has struggled for form and has lost his place in Arteta’s XI of late. Youngster Eddie Nketiah has impressed since returning from his loan spell at Leeds United in January, while Gabriel Martinelli continues to enjoy his debut campaign at the Emirates Stadium.
Nicolas Pepe has failed to live up to the lofty expectations of the Emirates Stadium faithful. He has netted four goals and registered six assists in 24 league games, failing to bring consistency to his game so far. To put things plainly, Arsenal need more creativity and goals if they are to compete in all competitions next season. And a player like Miguel Almiron would be a good fit.
Apart from Mesut Ozil, Arsenal have been bereft of a creative playmaker capable of constructing the team’s game and this has affected them for a number of years. Almiron could be that creative force for the Gunners, a player who can play on either wing and as a No.10. Such versatility could come handy for Arteta, who can use the player effectively.

The 26-year-old would not only add creativity to Arteta’s side but also bring goals. He may have scored just six goals and registered an assist, but Almiron could thrive with better players around him at Arsenal. The former Atlanta man has now gained decent Premier League experience and would be a valuable addition to the Gunners’ attacking ranks if he shows quality.
Verdict
Arteta’s attack would certainly be more creative and fluid if he acquires the services of Almiron. At 26, the Paraguayan international is entering the prime stages of his career and this would be the right time for him to take up a challenge at Arsenal if they come calling.
