Three-time Super Bowl winner Julian Edelman faced some backlash for his April Fool’s Day joke suggesting that he was coming out of retirement to join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have had quite an interesting offseason, to say the least. From Todd Bowles replacing Bruce Arians as head coach to Tom Brady unretiring, Tampa Bay has managed to grab headlines regularly in the NFL.
However, the NFC South Division franchise might have had some more jaw-dropping news coming their way, if what Julian Edelman posted was true. The 35-year-old former WR took to Twitter to reveal that he was returning to the NFL to join the Bucs…on April Fool’s Day.
Edelman’s joke comes only a few days after he was spotted training with Bucs QB Tom Brady. However, it’s safe to say that the former Patriots star’s prank did not go down well with a number of NFL fans.
Edelman, who spent 12 seasons in the NFL with the New England Patriots, won three Super Bowl titles with the franchise. He formed a robust partnership with quarterback Tom Brady. While Edelman called it quits in 2020, Brady continued his NFL journey, briefly retiring for a few months before announcing his comeback this year.
While NFL fans had initially believed that Edelman would reunite with Brady at Tampa Bay, it turned out that the 2019 Super Bowl MVP was simply pulling a prank on his followers on April Fool’s Day. Nevertheless, Edelman gave Patriots fans a mini heart attack with his Twitter post.
