Predicted Rangers XI to face St. Mirren in the Scottish Premiership

Rangers booked their seats in the fifth round of the Scottish Cup with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Stranraer FC on Saturday, thanks to goals from Scott Arfield and Jermain Defoe.

The Gers will once again be the outright favourites to come away with all three points when they play host to St. Mirren in the Scottish Premiership on Wednesday night.

Steven Gerrard’s side are currently a couple of points behind Celtic in the title race, having played a game less, and they will be hoping to strengthen their title credentials when they face the St. Mirren in the midweek fixture.

The Ibrox giants previously beat the Buddies 1-0 back in August when Borna Barisic’s stunning free-kick proved to be the difference between the two sides.

Team News

Steven Gerrard doesn’t have any fresh injury concerns heading into the home game against St. Mirren. Filip Helander and James Tavernier are on the treatment table but Alfredo Morelos is back in contention after serving a one-game ban for his red card in the Old Firm derby back in December.

Predicted XI

1. Allan McGregor (GK)

Wes Foderingham kept a rather easy clean-sheet against Stranraer in the Scottish Cup but the veteran has always been the undisputed first-choice between the sticks for the league games.

2. Jon Flanagan (RB)

The former Liverpool man remained an unused substitute on Saturday but the injury to Tavernier could open the door for him to start, unless, of course, Gerrard opts to retain youngster Nathan Patterson in the eleven.

3. Nikola Katic (CB)

The Croatian didn’t have too much to do against Stranraer but he has grabbed his opportunities with both hands in the absence of Helander and should retain his place.

4. Connor Goldson (CB)

The former Brighton man has been one of the first names on Gerrard’s team sheet since the start of the last season and he should be ready to start after a long rest.

5. Borna Barisic (LB)

The Croatian has been quite sensational for the Gers this season and he is expected to return to the eleven in place of Halliday.

6. Ryan Jack (CDM)

The former Aberdeen man has been one of the key cogs in Rangers’ midfield so far this term and he is likely to be given another start on Wednesday.

7. Glen Kamara (LCM)

The Finnish star didn’t feature in the cup tie but he could return to the eleven in place of Davis, who deserves a bit of rest after playing the full ninety minutes against Stranraer.

8. Scott Arfield (RCM)

The Canadian international continues to be a key player for Gerrard and a vital cog of the eleven due to his work-rate and all-round skills.

9. Joe Aribo (RW)

The Nigerian has chipped in with some valuable goal contributions for the Gers and he will be expected to put in a better shift on Wednesday after a mediocre display in the cup tie.

10. Ryan Kent (LW)

The former Liverpool man was rested for the cup tie but he is likely to take his place in the eleven against the Buddies.

11. Alfredo Morelos (ST)

Defoe found the net against Stranraer at the weekend but the Colombian hitman will surely return to spearhead the attack in the midweek game after serving his suspension.
