Liverpool cruised to a rather comfortable 2-0 victory against Portuguese giants Porto in the 1st leg of their Champions League quarterfinal encounter at the Anfield. They opened the scoring very early in the game through a heavily deflected shot from Naby Keita which caught Spaniard Iker Casillas completely off-guard.
Their second goal came through Roberto Firmino as some good work down the right side saw Trent Alexander-Arnold cross the ball into the Brazilian’s path for an easy tap-in to make it 2-0. Despite Porto’s best efforts going forward, a Virgil Van Dijk led defence stood strong and will have a two-goal lead to carry with them to Portugal.
Here are the Liverpool Player Ratings:
Hasn’t been his usual assured self for a couple of games now but did well whenever called upon.
The young Englishman did well to put the 2nd goal on a platter for Roberto Firmino but was largely ineffective.
Like his goalkeeper, has looked rusty in the last games and will have to regain his sharpness in coming weeks.
The self proclaimed ‘best defender in the world’ was shabby and looked a bit all over the place at times.
Despite his ripe age, the English veteran showed good composure on the ball and defended well.
The Englishman showed excellent control in the centre and showed no sign of tiring as the game wore on.
The Brazilian had a solid game in the middle of the park and he worked very hard in defence too.
Although he was a bit fortunate to get the early goal, a quick look at his performance shows that he deserved it.
Didn’t really offer much throughout the 2nd period and found it hard to get into the game at times.
Wasn’t quite as effective as usual today but he showed good skill and trickery on certain occasions.
The Brazilian was a constant itch for the Porto defence and he did extremely well to time his run for the 2nd goal.
Had no effect whatsoever after coming on and didn’t do much to exude confidence either.
