Kerry Earnhardt has publicly condemned his stepmother Teresa Earnhardt’s plans to transform his late father’s farmland into a massive industrial data center complex. The NASCAR legend’s eldest son took to social media to express his anger over the proposed re-zoning of the family property in Mooresville, North Carolina.
The $30 Billion Development Plan Kerry Earnhardt is Opposing
Teresa Earnhardt wants to convert 399 acres of Dale’s former property into an industrial data center. The project, dubbed Mooresville Technology Park, is valued at $30 billion and needs approval to change the land from agricultural use to industrial zoning. She has been pushing this rezoning effort for nearly a year now.
The rezoning request will be discussed before the Mooresville Board of Commissioners early next week, with community members and family members voicing strong opposition to the development.

Kerry Earnhardt’s Emotional Response
In his Facebook post, Kerry Earnhardt expressed shame that his family name was associated with the project. He stated his belief that his father “would be livid” about the proposed development and criticized the plan to change a thriving rural and agricultural community into an industrial zone.
Kerry emphasized his concerns about the environmental impact, stating that such infrastructure would deplete natural resources, uproot wildlife, and permanently alter the landscape and lives of area residents. He also expressed preference for seeing homes built by people who love the land as it was originally intended.
He wrote: “My Dad would be livid for his name to be associated in this title! Frankly, I’m ashamed our family name is involved in the request to rezone a community that is thriving as a Rural Residential/Agriculture zone to be changed to Industrial. Infrastructures like this don’t belong in neighborhoods where people’s natural resources will be depleted, wildlife will be uprooted, and the landscape and lives of the people that call this area home will forever be changed. I’d rather see homes built with people loving the land we live on…. the way this area was Intended to be! I look forward to Monday’s meeting at the Mooresville Town Hall.
Community and Family Opposition Following Teresa Earnhardt’s Proposal
The proposal has faced significant public opposition, with opponents creating a website called No Data Center Mooresville.com to detail their concerns. The project is causing a public family feud within the Earnhardt family, with some members speaking out against the project in public meetings.
Teresa Earnhardt has not attended recent public meetings regarding the proposal, leaving the community and family members to voice their concerns without direct engagement from the property owner.
