Khabib Nurmagomedov accused Herb Dean of taking a bribe to let Conor McGregor cheat
An old video of Khabib Nurmagomedov has surfaced where he is spotted accusing UFC referee Herb Dean of taking a bribe from Conor McGregor to let the Irishman cheat at UFC 229.
Khabib’s late father is also in the video. ‘The Eagle’ is spotted the referee how much he was paid to let McGregor cheat.
The conversation is not serious and seems to be a light-hearted one. Nevertheless, you could tell Khabib meant some of it.
Dean replied to the question saying that he was just doing his job. The three hugged at the end of the video, indicating that the incident was not that serious.
The Russian would have probably made a bigger deal of it had he lost the fight, but he didn’t.
How did Herb Dean ‘help’ Conor McGregor ‘cheat’ against Khabib Nurmagomedov?
Despite being one of the finest MMA referees ever, Dean was accused of not sanctioning Conor McGregor for a number of incidents in his lightweight title fight against Khabib Nurmagomedov.
McGregor was seen grabbing the cage with his toes and hands. He also held Khabib’s gloves, which was brought to the referee’s attention Khabib himself.
To add to that, his knee kicks to the side of Khabib’s head was probably the most glaring thing that went unpunished.
None of it mattered in the end though as Khabib won the fight via submission in round 4 and defended his belt.
But looking at the video, which is probably recorded before the Russian took on Dustin Poirier at UFC 242, it is evident that Khabib had not forgotten about the fight.
And why should he? If he went on to lose, it would have gone on to become a very big deal. But to be fair to Dean, he has overseen countless fights and has a very good record when it comes to being unbiased and fair.
