Khabib Nurmagomedov might not want to fight at Georges St-Pierre (GSP) but he doesn’t seem to want to stay out of action

MMA great Khabib Nurmagomedov set the UFC world abuzz with his comments on Georges St-Pierre and if he will fight the Canadian.

GSP, as St-Pierre is called, is one of the greatest MMA stars of all-time. He has been keeping in shape and seems to be the one fight that could bring Khabib out of retirement.

The Russian retired after defeating Justin Gaethje and his record stands at 29-0. Khabib’s father, Abdulmanap, passed away before this fight and the Russian retired after his mother asked him to promise stop fighting.

However, GSP was the fight that Khabib’s father wanted as the 30th and Dana White has been constantly asked about the Eagle’s return.

While Khabib had initially played coy about a return as White kept on having meetings, a snippet from RT sport seems to be opened the Pandora’s box.

Khabib doesn’t want to fight GSP at 170 but added that he was open to fighting in the Lightweight division, someone who is a real test for him.

While White, Khabib and GSP have all evaded questions of when the fight could be, the coach of The Eagle opened up that this fight could happen later this year.

Javier Mendez, however, was quick to add that this was his own though process. The coach also wasn’t in the loop of Khabib’s retirement and wasn’t sure if The Eagle would be back.

Khabib taking on GSP would be a huge fight and this would be a blockbuster event for the UFC. GSP has been training hard and Khabib too is keeping in shape, though it might not be as strenuous as when he was fighting for the belt.

White has confirmed that there is an unofficial tournament for Khabib’s Lightweight title. Khabib took has spoken about Dustin Poirier being the champion and it is to be seen if The Diamond can get the belt outright.

He seems set to fight Conor McGregor for a third time and White confirmed this could take place in the summer.

Khabib might not be back to defend his title. However, he seems keen on a Lightweight fight against GSP. A catchweight one would work too and it seems it is only a matter of time before The Eagle comes soaring back inside the Octagon.
