After a successful night in the Champions League, Liverpool will welcome Southampton at Anfield this weekend. Liverpool are still unbeaten across all competitions and currently sit 2nd in the standings – just below Chelsea due to goal difference.
Undoubtedly, Jurgen Klopp’s men have made a wonderful start to their Premier League campaign with five wins out of five games and they must continue their unbeaten run. On the contrary, Southampton have made a mixed start to their season and sit 13th with five points from five games.
Liverpool have already announced themselves as strong title contenders and the Saints will face a tough test against a side that has probably played the most attractive football in the Premier League.
Adam Lallana and Dejan Lovren continue to recover from a groin strain and a pelvic injury respectively and both players are unlikely to feature this weekend.
The Brazilian has been in top form in the Premier League, barring that odd slip-up against Leicester City. He was hardly at fault for the goals Liverpool conceded against PSG and Klopp should start him.
Trent Alexander-Arnold (RB)
The youngster has been in good form and put up another top-notch performance against PSG to keep Neymar at bay. He should start this weekend.
Joe Gomez (CB)
The English youngster has regained his confidence, establishing himself as a regular for the Reds in the absence of Dejan Lovren. He has been pretty solid and should start against Southampton.
Virgil van Dijk (CB)
The towering Dutchman is one of the best centre-backs in England and had a good outing against PSG. Klopp should hand him another start.
Andy Robertson (LB)
The Scotsman should retain his place after a wonderful performance against PSG.
Georginio Wijnaldum (RCM)
The Dutchman has done well in the Premier League so far. He has looked impressive with his work rate – pressing the opposition, winning the ball and driving forward. Must start this weekend.
James Milner (LCM)
The former English international ran the show at Anfield against PSG and has been one of the most consistent performers for the Reds this season. Should receive a start against Southampton.
Jordan Henderson (CM)
Henderson has fared well in the heart of the midfield. He cut out PSG’s attacks from the midfield and successfully dictated the tempo of the game. Klopp should hand him a start ahead of Naby Keita.
Mohamed Salah (RW)
The Egyptian wizard has not been at the top of his game but Jurgen Klopp should continue to give him regular starts.
Sadio Mane (LW)
The Senegalese forward has been in red-hot form in the Premier League and already has four goals to his name. He was a lively presence in the final third against PSG and must start this weekend.
Roberto Firmino (ST)
The Brazilian started from the bench against PSG due to an eye injury but he should replace Daniel Sturridge in the starting line-up against the Saints.
