Predicted Liverpool line-up to face Chelsea: Who starts for the Reds?
With six wins out of six in the Premier League, Liverpool have made the best-ever start in their history. Jurgen Klopp’s men continued their winning run on Saturday with a 3-0 thrashing of Southampton at Anfield.
Liverpool have arguably played the most attractive brand of football in the ongoing season and the Reds have sent a clear message to their title rivals.
Granted, the Reds outplayed Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League game but they are yet to face the big guns in the Premier League. Jurgen Klopp’s men will face their first real test of the season when they welcome Chelsea for the third round of the League Cup on Wednesday.

Virgil Van Dijk picked up a rib injury in the game against Southampton and is unlikely to feature on Wednesday. Adam Lallana and Dejan Lovren continue their recovery from groin and pelvic injuries respectively.

Formation: 4-3-3
Alisson (GK)
The Brazilian has been solid between, barring a howler against Leicester City. He has made some really good saves and should retain his position in the line-up.
Trent Alexander-Arnold (RB)
The youngster has grown in confidence as the season has progressed. He had an outstanding game against PSG and followed it up with another top-notch performance against Southampton. Klopp should hand him another start.
Joel Matip (CB)
The Cameroonian international made his first start since March against the Saints and looked quite solid at the back. He scored Liverpool’s second goal with a towering header and Klopp should offer him another start.
Joe Gomez (CB)
The English youngster started from the bench against Southampton but must start the League Cup game in place of Virgil van Dijk, who is out with an injury.
Andrew Robertson (LB)
The Scotsman had another good game against Southampton and did his reputation no harm at all. Should start the League Cup tie.
Georginio Wijnaldum (LCM)
The Dutchman has been instrumental in Liverpool’s success this season and continued his impressive run of form against Southampton. Must retain his place in the line-up.
Jordan Henderson (CM)
The English international must receive a start against Chelsea.
James Milner (RCM)
Klopp could field a 4-3-3 formation in the League Cup, meaning Liverpool’s standout performer of the season, James Milner, should start.
Sadio Mane (LW)
The Senegalese forward has been deadly in front of the goal and has already scored four goals in the Premier League. He had another impressive game against Southampton and Klopp must not bench him for the League Cup tie.
Mohamed Salah (RW)
The Egyptian wizard hasn’t been at the top of his game this season but he put up an impressive display in the last game, scoring from Shaqiri’s free-kick. He should start against Chelsea.

The Brazilian looked his usual self in front of the goal in the last game, passing accurately and linking the play with his teammates. Should start ahead of Daniel Sturridge.
