German veteran Tatjana Maria will lock horns with world No. 24 Ekaterina Alexandrova in the Korea Open semifinal on Saturday.
The world No. 80 has once again reached the semifinals of a tournament after making it to the last 4 at Wimbledon. Maria has been quite professional in her performances so far in the tournament and is yet to drop a set.
She began her campaign in Seoul against Eugenie Bouchard. The 35-year-old got the better of the Canadian tennis pro in two closely-contested sets. In the round of 16, Maria didn’t give her opponent, Kimberly Birrell, any chance to express herself and won the match 6-0, 6-3. In the quarter-finals, Maria blew away the world No. 70 – Zhu Lin in straight sets 6-1, 6-1.
The Russian tennis pro has found herself in the semi-finals of a tournament for the fourth time this year. She has managed to progress to the final at the Libema Open and ended up winning the title.
The 27-year-old began her campaign in the Korea Open with a win in three sets against America’s Asia Muhammad. In the round of 16, Alexandrova comprehensively defeated South Korea’s Han Na-lae in straight sets 6-1, 6-3. Swiss star Lulu Radovic gave Alexandrova a good fight but couldn’t take the match into the third set.
The head-to-head stands at 0-0 as the two players have never faced each other before.
Prediction: Tatjana Maria to win in three sets.
