Connor began playing for the Youngstown Phantoms of the USHL in 2012. In the 2013–14 season, he set a franchise record with 74 points in 56 games, including 31 goals and 43 assists, earning a spot on the USHL First All-Star Team. The following season, he led the league in scoring with 80 points, including 34 goals and 46 assists, and was named the USHL Forward and Player of the Year, and again to the USHL First All-Star Team.
Kyle Connor began his freshman season with the Michigan Wolverines in 2015-16, immediately making an impact as he recorded two goals and an assist in his debut game.
