Kyrie Irving to not play for the Nets until he is vaccinated
It has just been reported the Kyrie Irving is set to stay out of action for the Brooklyn Nets until he decides to get fully vaccinated. As per the New York City’s mandates he was initially restricted to play or train in the home arena.
However, the Nets have decided to not bother him at all until he gets vaccinated. Nets GM Sean Marks stated (h/t NBC Sports):
“Given the evolving nature of the situation and after thorough deliberation, we have decided Kyrie Irving will not play or practice with the team until he is eligible to be a full participant. Kyrie has made a personal choice, and we respect his individual right to choose. Currently the choice restricts his ability to be a full-time member of the team. We will not permit any member of our team to participate with part-time availability. It is imperative that we continue to build chemistry as a team and remain true to our long-established values of togetherness and sacrifice. Our championship goals for the season have not changed. And to achieve these goals each member of our organization must pull in the same direction. We are excited for the start of the season and look forward to a successful campaign that will make the borough of Brooklyn proud.”
This decision can be very impactful for the Nets as Irving happens to be one of the most crucial players for the team. Irving will certainly have to put his personal choice aside to continue playing for the Nets.
Irving’s vaccination status has become a point of argument for a little while now. It has also become a headache for the NBA in the recent times. With the league trying the best to protect the fans and the players this can prove to be a bit troubling.
Irving has earlier spoken about how he feels this is a private matter. But the Nets star was seen liking posts of conspiracies linked to the vaccine and black people on Instagram. Though he has never spoken about it publicly his belief in the conspiracy could be a major deciding factor of his decision of being unvaccinated.
Whatever the case, Irving has to now put his team and the loyalty towards his fans upfront and get vaccinated. If he still decided to stay against it he will most certainly not feature for the Nets this season as mentioned earlier. NBA’s regular season kicks off in one week’s time and the fans would hope that Irving changes his mind.
