3-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray from Team Europe takes on Team World’s Alex de Minaur on Friday.
The 35-year-old has won 22 matches this season and lost 15. He made it to the final of the Sydney International before losing to Aslan Karatsev. Murray also finished second best at the Stuttgart Open, losing to Matteo Berrettini in the final.
The experienced campaigner is coming into the tournament following a decent US Open campaign, where he defeated Francisco Cerundolo and Emilio Nava in the first couple of rounds before losing once again to Berrettini in the third round in four sets. Murray will be hoping to give Team Europe a headstart before Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal step onto the court to face the American duo of Jack Sock and Frances Tiafoe.
The Australian tennis pro has put in strong performances in quite a few tournaments this year. He made it to the fourth round of the Australian Open and Wimbledon. The 23-year-old has also progressed to three semi-finals this year at the Barcelona Open, the Lyon Open, and the Eastbourne International.
Alex de Minaur bagged his sixth ATP title at the Atlanta Open but his performances since the triumph have not been quite impressive. He looked good at the US Open though and made it to the third round with comfortable wins against Filip Krajinovic and Cristian Garin. His campaign ended with a loss to Pablo Carreno Busta.
Alex de Minaur has a 1-0 lead over the veteran. They faced each other at the Zhuhai Championships in 2019. The youngster came back from a set down to win the match 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.
Prediction: Alex de Minaur to win in three sets.
