David grew up in Miami, Florida, and went to Northwestern High School with Marcus Forston, Anthony Gaitor, Jacory Harris, Sean Spence, Tommy Streeter, and Brandon Washington.
He signed with Middle Tennessee State but later transferred to Fort Scott Community College in Fort Scott, Kansas.
