NBA Superstar LeBron James reacted to the shock win of Frances Tiafoe over Rafael Nadal at the 2022 US Open.
The Los Angeles superstar is often known for his tendency to acknowledge the young and upcoming stars irrespective of whether they play basketball or not, and he gave another instance of his habit when he reacted to Frances Tiafoe’s shock win over Rafael Nadal in the US Open.
Young American Tiafoe shocked the four-time US Open champion and one of the all-time greats of the game in Rafael Nadal as he defeated him 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 and 6-3 to reach the quarter-finals of the US Open.
It was one of the upsets of the tournament so far, as the 24-year-old put on a fearless display at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York to only become the fourth American to qualify for the US Open quarter-finals.
“I’m beyond happy, almost in tears, I can’t believe it,” Tiafoe said in his on-court interview. “I played unbelievable tennis today. I really don’t know what happened.”
The young American certainly made a name for himself with a scalp of enormous stature, and made one of the premier athletes of the world in LeBron James give him a nod.
What did LeBron James have to say about Frances Tiafoe?
The four time NBA champion took to Twitter to react to Tiafoe’s shock win over Nadal.
LeBron quoted the official US Open account’s tweet about Tiafoe celebrating his win over Nadal (titled “Have a moment Frances Tiafoe”) and congratulated the young American on his win.
LeBron said: “CONGRATS Young King!!! You earned it! @FTiafoe”, and chose to add “Keep going #StriveForGreatness” – to which Tiafoe replied with “Thank you big bro…… we got some more work to do @KingJames.”
If there is anyone who knows about striving for greatness through out their career, it is King James – and the wish from one of the prime athletes in the world will mean a lot to Tiafoe.
