WWE NXT saw Keith Lee defend his title against a close friend this week
WWE NXT featured a couple huge title matches which featured their top champions. Io Shirai and Tegan Nox also clashed for the NXT Women’s title.
However, the big talking point was seeing Keith Lee defend his titles against friend Dominik Dijakovic.
There were a few hits and misses from this week’s show and we first start off with the spots that didn’t land.
Misses
1) Thatcher’s class
Timothy Thatcher made a huge mark when he came out with Matt Riddle a few weeks back. He attacked Riddle and it seemed there were great things in store for him.
However, Thatcher’s storyline has become one dimensional, even if he has a rival in Oney Lorcan. It’s not saying that Thatcher is a poor performer, it’s just that things just don’t seem to be clicking for him.
2) Grimes vs Priest
The next instalment of the Cameron Grimes vs Damien Priest rivalry took place on NXT with Priest getting the win.
These two are two quality wrestlers but WWE just can’t seem to get them going. The match was decent enough but it again felt like something more could have been done.
Priest saying that he would be watching Lee vs Dijakovic was a decent big but we all know that Lee’s real rival would be Karrion Kross.
Hits
1) Best friends collide
Dijakovic vs Lee was a great match but it was fun seeing the two best friends in the opening segment.
Lee has become this huge superstar on NXT while Dijakovic has stagnated a bit. However, they put on a great clash and it will be interesting to see what is next for Dijakovic.
He could take on Kross before the Kross vs Lee clash happens. Also, WWE could build a decent story around Kross attacking Dijakovic and Lee making the save.
2) Stone gets his revenge
Robert Stone was run over by Shotzi Blackheart’s tank last week and was the butt of many jokes. However, he got his revenge this week by costing Blackheart her match.
While this wasn’t a big deal, Stone does need to be more than just humour quotient. He has done that role well but he needs to be a heel too, something that he needs to show regularly.
This also continues his rivalry with Blackheart and it will be interesting to see what is next.
3) The ladies throw it down
Another week, another quality match from the women on NXT. While WWE brought in Sasha Banks and Bayley recently, Shirai vs Nox was one of the best clashes of the year.
While Nox fell short of winning the NXT Women’s title, she put on a great performance and should be in the running for another shot.
However, the ending was interesting too as Shirai was knocked out by Dakota Kai and a new rivalry could be blossoming.
