Why Leeds United should revive their interest in Che Adams
According to Football Insider (h/t Daily Express), former Leeds United defender Alex Bruce has urged the club to revive their interest in Southampton finisher Che Adams.
The report also claims that Leeds were interested in landing the 23-year-old striker at Elland Road last January in a bid to bolster their chance of earning a Premier League promotion.
Leeds had even agreed to a £19million deal for Adams in order to lure him to Elland Road. However, the deal never materialised as Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl pulled the plug in the last minute.
Adams, on the other hand, has endured a difficult maiden campaign at St Mary’s having moved from Birmingham City last summer. The English striker’s sensational form for the Championship outfit last season saw him earn a move to the Premier League this season.
However, things have not been so smooth for Adams since moving to the top-flight, as he is yet to find the back of the net despite making 22 league appearances this term for Premier League strugglers Southampton.
With Leeds now facing an almost certain promotion into the Premier League next season, their former defender Alex Bruce has urged them to reignite their interest in Adams.
Adams will offer Leeds more depth in the attack
The Whites are currently on top of the Championship and Bielsa would be aware that his side needs reinforcements in order to compete in the Premier League. Leeds currently have three strikers – Patrick Bamford, Tyler Roberts, and Jean-Kévin Augustin in their ranks.
First-choice finisher Bamford has been in good form this season for the Whites, scoring 13 times in the league. He is currently his side’s top-scorer. The 21-year-old Roberts has impressed with three goals from 14 league matches. But he is still young and has a lot more to develop in his game.
Meanwhile, French striker Augustin arrived at Elland Road last January on loan from RB Leipzig after Leeds missed out on signing Adams. However, he is expected to return to his parent club at the end of this season.
This would leave Leeds with just two strikers and it will hurt them badly if they are to play in the Premier League next season.
That said, it seems safe that Leeds once again revive their interest in former target Adams. A proven performer, Adams was excellent last season for Birmingham City. He scored an impressive 22 league goals from 46 matches, putting his goal-scoring skills out on the display.
But he has been unable to emulate his performances since coming to Southampton. Nevertheless, Leeds must try to sign him as he will provide them with depth in the attack.

Verdict
Despite Leeds United’s excellent displays in the Championship this season, it is clear that they have a dearth of strikers in their ranks. Adams’ arrival will only add more strength to their squad if they get promoted to the Premier League. Hence, it would be wise of the club to pay heed to their former defender’s words and sign him as soon as possible.
