Why Leeds United must make a move to sign Moise Kean
Moise Kean is struggling to break into the Juventus first-team squad. The highly rated 18-year-old has only managed 12 minutes of Champions League action this season. Although Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri has played down a permanent exit, a January loan move could be on the cards.
Speaking after the 2-0 win against SPAL, Allegri said (h/t Calciomercato)
“He will remain at Juventus in January, he is a Juventus player and he is not considered a kid. The season is still long and everyone will be needed, he has started well and his time will come.”
A move to promotion-chasing Leeds United in the Championship would guarantee the teenager more minutes. With Leeds’ other striking options struggling to find the back of the net consistently, January signings in the attacking department is understandable. Kemar Roofe has been Bielsa’s go-to striker, having netted 8 times so far. To boost their promotion chances, Leeds need to stop their overreliance on Roofe.
Moise Kean has scored five goals from 22 Serie A appearances. Capped once by Italy, the youngster’s pace is quite electrifying which makes him a solid threat in counter-attacks. A good dribbler and a prolific finisher, Kean can play either on the left wing or as a centre-forward.
He impressed in the 19 matches he played in during his loan to Hellas Verona last season, scoring four goals. Kean needs minutes and it is going to be difficult for the youthful prospect to displace the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Paulo Dybala and Mario Mandzukic from Juventus’ line-up.
Hence, a move to England’s second division would help him progress his career that is threatening to stagnate at Juve. Furthermore, Leeds need to be wary of having all their eggs on one basket. If both Roofe and Bamford get ruled out through injury, their chances of promotion could be seriously derailed.
One point and a place behind leaders Norwich City, Leeds need all the resources they can get in their promotion chase. A finish in the top-two positions would guarantee an automatic top-flight return for Leeds since 2004.
With most of their direct rivals enjoying parachute payments, Leeds need to be canny in the transfer market to gain promotion in Bielsa’s first time of asking. Signing this highly rated youngster would provide an alternative solution to the Argentine manager, should he need to rotate or should Roofe be unavailable for selection.
