Why Leeds United must plot a summer swoop for Glen Kamara
Back in November, the Football Insider (h/t The Express) claimed Leeds United had scouted Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara. However, the Whites didn’t make a move for the player during the January transfer window.
Glen Kamara, 24, joined Rangers from Dundee in January 2019 and has gone onto make 37 appearances across all competitions for the Gers so far this season, scoring a goal. The midfielder has been one of the consistent performers for Rangers, who are 13 points behind league leaders Celtic.
Meanwhile, Leeds United are edging closer to a long-awaited promotion back to the Premier League this season under the guidance of Marcelo Bielsa. The Whites have won their last five league games, which has seen them bounce back from a wretched start to 2020.
That impressive run of form has seen Leeds move to the top of the Championship table and the players will be hoping to keep their nerves and do their job with nine games remaining of this year’s campaign. While the players will have to keep going, Bielsa must start planning for the new season.
One area the Argentinean tactician should address is the midfield. Kalvin Phillips has established himself as a rock in the midfield for the Whites but in his absence due to injury or suspension this season, Bielsa has struggled to replace him in the team. Neither Ben White nor Stuart Dallas has been able to deputise in Phillips’ absence in the holding role.
Plus, Adam Forshaw has spent the majority of the campaign on the sidelines with a hip problem, managing just seven appearances. Thus, it won’t be a bad idea for Bielsa to bring another versatile midfielder to his midfield ranks. And Glen Kamara would be a good fit at Elland Road.
Kamara is a product of Arsenal’s academy, but only managed to make one appearance for the Gunners before joining Dundee on a free transfer in 2017. He has proven himself in Scotland with Dundee and Rangers and the midfielder is at the right age to take the next big step in his career.

The Finnish international is a defensive midfielder by trade but can play in various positions across the park. Kamara is highly talented and has the ability to succeed in the fast-paced nature of English football given he is able to keep himself away from injuries.
Verdict
Club captain Pablo Hernandez doesn’t have much to offer in the future as he’s ageing. With Forshaw spending the majority of the campaign on the sidelines, it should prompt Bielsa to add depth and quality to their midfield during the summer transfer window. Hence, signing Kamara would be the best for Leeds and he can be seen as a player for their future.
