Why Harry Wilson would be a wonderful signing for Leeds United

According to Wales Online, Leeds United are weighing up a move for Liverpool and Wales star Harry Wilson if they manage to secure promotion to the Premier League.

The same report claims that Wilson has impressed Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa on his loan spell at Derby County and the Peacocks want the youngster to add depth and quality to their options in the final third.

Along with Chelsea loanee Mason Mount, Harry Wilson has caught the eye with his consistently impressive performances for Frank Lampard’s side this term, accumulating 12 goals and 4 assists from 33 appearances across all competitions. This is not the first time that Wilson has impressed on loan, with the 21-year-old grabbing his opportunity to shine at Hull City last term.

It remains to be seen whether the Welsh international has a future at Anfield but it seems unlikely that Jurgen Klopp will be able to accommodate him in his first-team plans for the upcoming season. With stalwarts like Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Xherdan Shaqiri in their ranks, the Reds are already well-stocked in attack and it will be a near impossible task for Wilson to break into the team.

Meanwhile, Leeds United have enjoyed a wonderful season in the Championship under Marcelo Bielsa after a campaign of mid-table obscurity last term. The Peacocks moved up to second in the standings with an emphatic 4-0 victory over fellow promotion rivals West Brom, and with just 11 games to go, the Yorkshire giants will be looking to end their 15-year long absence from top-flight football.

Spearheaded by the talismanic Kemar Roofe, Leeds have proved that they have enough talent in their ranks to make it to the Premier League. However, they will need to bring in a few fresh faces to add more tooth to their attack if they manage to seal promotion. Man City loanee Jack Harrison, Championship’s breakout star Jack Clarke, veteran Pablo Hernández and Patrick Bamford are all capable of playing in multiple positions in the attacking third but the Peacocks are yet to find a replacement for Samuel Saiz, who left Elland Road in January.

And someone like Harry Wilson definitely fits the ball. Standing at 5ft. 8 inches with a diminutive frame, Wilson is a technically-gifted and tactically-versatile creative ace who is capable of playing on either flank and also through the centre as the main playmaker. His relatively short stature provides him with the advantage of low centre-of-gravity, which allows him to keep exceptional close control in tight areas along the flanks.

Blessed with silky dribbling skills and high levels of agility and sharpness, Wilson excels with his pace and quality on the ball, creating space with his subtle movement and often using his vision to unleash defence-splitting passes. The Welshman is known for his ability to cut inside with pace and deliver quality crosses into the penalty area, whilst also possessing a sweet left foot that is capable of causing damage from set-pieces.

Suffice to say, Wilson has all the attributes to add that creative spark to a Leeds side that has struggled for creativity at times. Wilson is one of the best young talents in the country and his stylish technical game will be a perfect fit for Bielsa’s attacking philosophy which necessitates the wingers to bomb forward with pace. Hence, they should go all out to sign the Liverpool prodigy next summer.
