Leeds United Opinion: Signing Viktor Fischer will strengthen the Whites

Leeds United’s current league position could be one of the biggest surprises of the season so far. While their football has been decent, the improvement from last season is drastic. While the ideology at the club is there to be seen, the implementation has been a surprise.

Marcelo Bielsa has turned this mid-table Championship club into a team that needs to be feared, given that they are capable of pouncing on you from anywhere at any time. With in-form players like Patrick Bamford around to support, Leeds United have had a fairly good season.

They currently find themselves in a respectable 2nd place and with just 2 points separating them from league leaders Norwich City at the top, the title race is still an active competition.

Although their performances this season have warranted their good league position, it’s the improvement from last year that has really left Whites’ fans with massive motivation as well as optimism for what the next term holds.

Having finished last season in 13th place with a points tally of just 60, Leeds United’s improvement has been sudden. This climb of 12 spots has even seen them improve their points tally by 10, something Marcelo Bielsa is certain to be proud of.

With Premier League football on the horizon at Elland Road, now would be the perfect time for them start thinking about strengthening the squad before making the giant leap up to the top-flight. A good look at their current crop of players gives a clear indication of the requirement at Leeds.

33-year-old Pablo Hernandez, 18-year-old Jack Clarke and Manchester City loanee Jack Harrison are Leeds’ options on the flanks and while the latter is expected to return to his parent club at the end of the season, some cover for the wide position is a necessity at Elland Road.

Bielsa should be looking to make a move for Copenhagen left-winger Viktor Fischer, who has been in fine form this season. He has managed to notch up 7 goals and 9 assists from his 15 league games. He also featured in 7 Europa League qualification ties this season and scored twice and assisted 4.

The former Middlesbrough man’s contribution to the Copenhagen team is spectacular and his style of play certainly suits the English game as well. With decent pace and a very smart brain, his movement in and around the box tends to leave defenders flabbergasted.

This move makes sense for both parties as at 24, this is the perfect opportunity for the young Dane to rejuvenate his career while the Whites do need someone of his pedigree to come in and do a job on the flanks. Bielsa must prioritise this signing and get it done in the summer transfer window.
