Why Leeds United should reignite their interest in Jese Rodriguez
According to Spanish source El Desmarque, Leeds United wanted to sign Jese Rodriguez on loan in January but a move back to English football failed to materialize for the former Real Madrid star and he signed for Real Betis on loan till the end of the season.
A name no stranger to football fans across Europe, Jese Rodriguez was tipped to become Real Madrid and Spain’s next superstar back in his days at the Bernabeu. However, he has got his career into a bit of a downward spiral since completing a switch to PSG.
The immensely-talented Spaniard has made only 15 appearances for the Ligue 1 leaders after making a move to the French capital in 2016, spending time on loan at Las Palmas and Stoke City.
Essentially a right-footed creative ace who is capable of playing anywhere across the forward line, Rodriguez is mostly used as an inverted winger down the left. While he is adept at using his electric pace and silky dribbling skills to cut inside from the flanks, the Spaniard can be equally effective with his subtle movement off the ball and crisp finishing.
A fast, agile and technically-gifted attacker, the 25-year-old has exceptional close control in tight areas, whilst also using his poaching instincts to get into the box to score goals. To sum it up, he has the ability to score as well as create goals, having registered 18 goals and 15 assists from 94 appearances for Real Madrid across all competitions.
To put things into perspective, Leeds United should reignite their interest in the creative Spaniard ahead of the upcoming season, with the Peacocks closing in on a return to the Premier League following a prolonged absence. Leeds have enjoyed a successful season in the Championship under the stewardship of Marcelo Bielsa and they currently sit atop the standings, just a point clear of second-placed Norwich City.
The Peacocks have some quality players in their ranks who can help them survive in the Premier League next season should they make it to the top flight. The likes of Pablo Hernández, Kemar Roofe, Jack Clarke, Mateusz Klich, Adam Forshaw and a few others have done exceedingly well this season and the expectations from them will be rocketing sky-high.

However, they need to invest heavily in the summer to build a formidable Premier League quality squad and someone like Jesse Rodriguez would be a welcome addition. Given that the Spaniard has struggled for form in the last couple of seasons and has been deemed surplus to PSG’s demands, the Peacocks can possibly bag a massive coup by snapping him up for a moderate fee.
