Why Leicester should go all out to sign Callum McGregor in the summer?
According to a report from BBC, Leicester City have appointed Brendan Rodgers as their new manager on a three-year deal.
Rodgers, 47, had been given permission by Celtic earlier on Tuesday to talk to Leicester, bringing an end to his successful spell in charge of the Scottish champions where he won seven domestic trophies. He enjoyed his stint at Parkhead and will be succeeded by Neil Lennon for the remainder of the season.
Leicester have underperformed with the squad they’ve got this season and after a horrid run of results, the board decided to sack Claude Puel. The axe was coming for Puel, who had managed only a single point in the last six Premier League games.
Rodgers, Puel’s successor, took his place in the stand on Tuesday as Leicester brought an end to a six-game winless run by beating Brighton 2-1 to move up to 11th place in the table. Rodgers will aim to achieve a top-eight finish and while it looks tough given the likes of Watford and Wolves in really good form, it isn’t impossible.
But the Northern Irishman should also start planning for the next season as we are just 11 games away for the 2018/19 campaign to end. The current Leicester squad needs strengthening in the summer and Rodgers should make a move for Celtic star Callum McGregor.
Callum McGregor, 25, has truly prospered at Celtic since his impressive loan stint at Notts County in 2013-14, going onto become an invaluable member for the reigning Scottish champions and for the Scotland national team.
The midfielder has made over 200 appearances for the Hoops since breaking into the senior ranks in 2013, and during that time he has won four Scottish Premiership titles, two Scottish Cups and three Scottish League Cups. The Scotsman’s versatility is his biggest asset as he is capable of playing in different positions across the pitch.
A smooth operator of the ball, Callum McGregor loves to pick up pockets of spaces and influence the game with his movement, energy and enthusiasm. He can pick a pass and has the knack of arriving late in the box to score goals. Constantly driving the team forward while never neglecting his defensive duties, the Scotsman just never stops running and always gives his 100% on the pitch.

A player blessed with such qualities, McGregor would be a fantastic buy for the Foxes. And having already worked with the Scottish midfielder, Rodgers knows how to get the best out of the player.
That said, Leicester should go all out to sign McGregor in the summer.
