Why Leicester City should sell Bartosz Kapustka

While speaking to Polish radio station Weszlo FM (h/t Leicestershire Live), Bartosz Kapustka admitted that he needs to leave Leicester City this summer.

Despite joining Leicester back in 2016 as one of the brightest upcoming talents in Europe, Kapustka has failed to nail down a spot within the side and is now keen on moving someplace else. (h/t Leicestershire Live)

Having arrived at the King Power Stadium four years back in a £2m deal from Cracovia, the Polish attacker still remains a forgotten man.

After earning a move to England after his eye-catching displays at the Euro 2016 for Poland, Kapustka has so far made just three senior team appearances for the Premier League side. All of these three appearances, unfortunately, came in his maiden season. And the 23-year-old is now itching to make a permanent move away from the club in order to get his career back on track.

After a not so fruitful debut season with the Foxes, Kapustka was soon offloaded to German side Freiburg the next season on a season-long loan. However, he failed to impress during his time in Germany, making just seven league appearances and scoring once.

This was followed by another loan spell at City’s sister club OH Leuven. He made 20 appearances for the Belgian outfit before suffering a serious knee injury that kept him out for the rest of the season.

No room in Leicester squad for Kapustka

Kapustka finally made a return from his injury recently in December. But he has failed to break into Brendan Rodgers’ side, who are enjoying a successful season in the Premier League.

Being constantly on the sidelines seems to have taken a toll on the attacking midfielder, who was once touted for greater things. Since coming back from injury, Kapustka has featured twice for Leicester under-23 side. But he wasn’t given a spot in City’s 25-man squad for the second half of the season.

Moreover, the likes of James Maddison and Youri Tielemans have established themselves as the side’s first-choice men. Hence, Kapustka’s chances seem increasingly limited. Maddison has been one of Leicester’s top performers so far, banging in six goals and giving three assists.

He has just missed Leicester’s one league game this season, speaking volumes about his worth within the current Foxes line-up. That said, and with the side already filled with as many as ten midfielders in the ranks, it is best that Leicester offload Kapustka.

Verdict

Leicester City have enough midfielders in their midst and Kapustka is just surplus to the club’s requirements at the moment. Also, considering Maddison and Tielemans’ excellent form, Kapustka’s chances of making a first-team entry seem very bleak. Hence, they should stop holding onto their forgotten man rather let him go permanently.
