With Leicester City looking at various defensive targets, Jonathan Tah has emerged as one of the options that they are considering (source – Leicestershire Live). He is seen as an alternative to Leicester’s primary target Wesley Fofana of St. Etienne.
Jonathan Tah is a 24-year-old German centre-back who plays for Bayer Leverkusen. He started his youth career at Altona 93 back in 2000. Then he moved to the likes of SC Concordia and Hamburger SV after 9 years.
He broke into Hamburger SV’s first-team in 2013 and made a total of 20 appearances that season before being sent on loan to Fortuna Dusseldorf. After the end of his loan spell, Bayer Leverkusen bought him on a permanent basis.
Since then, he has been a mainstay in their backline and has amassed 181 games for them while also chipping in with 4 goals and 7 assists (source – Transfermarkt). Tah is a tall, strong centre-back who has improved exponentially over the last few years and during this time, he broke into the national team. He has a total of 10 caps for Die Mannschaft.
Leicester are in the market for a centre-back as they are back to playing in Europe this year. They are considering a lot of options such as Wesley Fofana, Jean-Clair Todibo and Nicolas Nkoulou. However, they should really consider Jonathan Tah as he fits their requirement.
He is just 24 and can be a long-term partner to last season’s breakout star Caglar Soyuncu. The German has proved himself in the Bundesliga in the last few years and that has led to him being one of the first names on Joachim Low’s Germany team sheet.
Jonathan Tah will definitely not come on the cheap as he will cost the club around £35million.
But he would be a great fit for the Premier League’s physical nature and looks like someone who will be worth the investment, both in the long and short term.
Leicester should cough up the extra money and get him because sooner than later. He is one of Bundesliga’s most promising talents and Leicester would only benefit from his arrival to the King Power stadium.
