Why Leicester must make a move for Club Brugge’s Emmanuel Dennis
Back in November 2019, the Daily Mirror had claimed that Leicester City were interested in signing Club Brugge forward Emmanuel Dennis in the January transfer window. However, a move didn’t happen and he stayed put with the Belgian club.
Emmanuel Dennis, 22, has impressed for Club Brugge since his arrival in 2017 from Ukrainian side Zorya Luhansk, where he spent his first season in Europe. He is in his third season at the Belgian club, scoring 12 goals in 38 appearances in his first season, and seven goals in 32 games in his second.
The Nigerian has continued his good form, netting nine goals in 33 appearances across all competitions so far this term.
The 22-year-old’s form this season earned him international recognition and he made his debut for Nigeria against Ukraine in September. Dennis signed a contract extension in September, with his deal at Club Brugge running till 2022.
With the Nigerian international enjoying another solid campaign with Club Brugge, Leicester City must revive their interest in the forward when the transfer window opens.
In recent years, Leicester City have focused on building a strong core of young and talented players in their first-team. While the likes of James Maddison and Demarai Gray have arrived from the Championship, others like Harvey Barnes and Ben Chilwell have come through the club’s youth system.
Wilfred Ndidi, who was brought in from Belgium a couple of years ago, has evolved into one of the best central midfielders in the Premier League at the age of 22.
Suffice to say, the Foxes have an exciting pool of young talents in their ranks and each of the aforementioned players have the potential to develop into world-class players in the future. Keeping that in mind, Emmanuel Dennis, who is also a really talented individual, would be yet another fantastic addition to Leicester’s group of promising young guns.
Dennis has been in exceptional form this season, with an eye-catching brace in a 2-2 draw at Real Madrid in the Champions League undoubtedly the standout performance of the 22-year-old this season.
While he is young and has scope to improve, the forward has racked up a fair amount of European experience, with 20 appearances in the Champions League or Europa League to his name already.
The two-cap Nigerian international, although primarily a striker, also pops up out wide from time to time, featuring on both the right and left flanks for Brugge. That said, versatility is one of his better attributes, and he has played on both wings this season and through the middle as well.

Dennis would undoubtedly bolster Leicester’s attacking ranks, whilst bringing competition up top for Jamie Vardy and Kelechi Iheanacho. With Vardy 33 and ageing, Dennis could be considered as a long-term replacement for the Foxes’ talisman.
Verdict
Dennis certainly fits the bill at the King Power Stadium with Rodgers building a young, exciting squad this season. Hence, the Foxes must do everything in their powers to sign the forward from Club Brugge this summer.
