Leonard Kyle Dykstra is an American former professional baseball centre fielder, who played in Major League Baseball for the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies.
During his senior year, he hit .494 with 50 hits on the season, which was just two short of the state record. He tabbed a career total of 89 stolen bases, second best in state history at the time. He also recorded a hit in all 27 games of his senior season. He was named all-league, all-county, and all-state in both his junior and season seasons.
Lenny Dykstra’s career began in 1981 after he was signed by the Mets. He soon won the nickname “Nails” for his fearless style of play, and observers commented that he had “no concept of failure.” After playing his first season in the major leagues in 1985.
Dykstra hit a staggering number of home runs in 1986 and led the Mets to a World Series Championship. He was a three-time All-Star as well.
