Leon Edwards is really making a mark in the promotion in recent years. Edwards made his UFC debut back in November 2014 but is yet to reach the superstar status that his skill warrants.
He has fought against big names but that headliner fight from him has never really come for one reason or the other. It could probably that he doesn’t really excite people that much considering 9 of his 13 UFC fights have gone to decision.
And he has finished his opponent just thrice in that time at the promotion. He also has no fight of the night or performance of the night awards to show, but he is a sturdy fighter who pragmatically approaches each fight and manages to get the job done each time.
He won the UFC welterweight title after beating Kamaru Usman in the title fight later in 2022.
For a fighter that hasn’t had any notably big payouts, Leon Edwards has amassed a net worth of a massive $1.5 million in that time. This, of course, is primarily due to Edward’s exploits inside the UFC octagon.
His fight, against Belal Muhammad at UFC Fight Night 187, saw him take home $80,000. His highest payout came in his bout against Nate Diaz at UFC 263 when his win against the Brazilian saw him earn $231,000.
However, his victory against Usman, which was tipped as an upset, earned him $350,000.
His total career earnings in MMA is just over a million. These figures included post-fight bonuses, sponsorship bonus, payout on appearance, win bonuses, etc.
Edwards has a very impressive professional MMA record of 20-3-0 (1 NC) and UFC record of 11-2-0 (1 NC) since his debut some 6 years back.
Edwards is currently on an unstoppable streak. Disregarding his no-contest bout against Belal Muhammad, The British-Jamaican MMA fighter has won 9 fights on the trot. His victims include stalwarts such as RDA, Gunnar Nelson, Donald Cerrone and Usman.
His first UFC loss came on his debut in 2014 against Claudio Silva, and his only other loss in the promotion is against Usman when he lost to him by unanimous decision at UFC on Fox 17. However, he managed to beat the Nigerian Nightmare in their rematch.
One of his fights ended in a no-contest after he inadvertently poked his opponent, Belal Muhammad, in their welterweight bout at UFC Fight Night 187. The fight was stopped in the 2nd round due to an eye poke.
Leon Edwards lives a private life when it comes to his family. There are no reports in the media about his possible wife or girlfriends. He, however, is the father of a 7-year-old named Jason.
Jason’s mother’s name is unknown and Edwards privacy in familial matters on his social media accounts should be respected in this regard. He does have a brother, Fabian, who fights in Bellator MMA.
Leon is nicknamed ‘Rocky’ which was supposedly given to him by a friend of his. It is possible that his name stuck after the ‘Rocky’ movie starring Sylvester Stallone as a boxer.
As for Leon Edwards and his endorsements, there is no information available about which companies associate with him and sponsor him.
