Liudmila Samsonova was born in Olenegorsk, an industrial city in Murmansk Oblast, Russia. When she was just one year old, her family relocated to Italy because her father, Dmitry, who was a table tennis player, received an invitation to play for the Ferentino club in Turin.
Her father encouraged her to take up either table tennis or lawn tennis, and she ultimately chose the latter. Her tennis journey began at the age of six when she joined Riccardo Piatti’s tennis academy in Sanremo, thanks to financial assistance provided by the local tennis federation.
