Why Liverpool must offload Danny Ings this summer

Danny Ings has reportedly decided to leave Liverpool in order to play regularly elsewhere in a bid to relaunch his career. He has had a series of injuries which have taken numerous first-team opportunities away from him but the Englishman has fought back to earn recognition again.

The talented striker has been linked with moves away from the club for the past three transfer windows. Clubs like Tottenham, Burnley, Bayer Leverkusen and Inter Milan have shown interest in the player in the past. Now that he is willing to leave the club, Ings is unlikely to face a shortage of suitors.

Why Liverpool should offload him

Under Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool are playing sumptuous football with their front trio consisting of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane causing mayhem on a consistent basis.

Although Firmino is deployed as a No.9, his role is rather unique and unorthodox. He often creates space for the other two forwards to score goals. He also has the ability to drop deep and contribute to build-up play.

Not many centre-forwards have the ability to do so. With that in mind, Ings will be surplus to requirement in terms of playing week in week out. Furthermore, the Reds are looking for a new striker in the ongoing transfer window, which would push Ings further below the pecking order.

Klopp would be happy to have Ings in his squad.

As things stand, selling the former Burnley star won’t weaken Liverpool. However, it will be a great move for Ings since he must restart his career pronto.

The verdict

The fact that he has appeared merely 14 times in the last three campaigns doesn’t sound impressive whatsoever. However, Ings’ injury woes seem to be over now and he must revive his career to reach his true potential. After all, he is a great striker blessed with exceptional pace. Regardless of where he joins, Ings will score goals and make a stronger impact.
