Liverpool Opinion: Why the Reds should go all out to sign Domenico Berardi
Sassuolo star Domenico Berardi recently told TUTTOmercatoWEB that he would like to join Liverpool if he had the choice.
The Italian forward, 24, scored nine goals and set up five for his teammates in 35 Serie A appearances this past season. He has made it clear that he will be on his way out of Sassuolo as soon as an offer arrives for him, making a come-get-me plea to Liverpool.
Domenico Berardi has scored 56 goals in 186 appearances across all competitions for Sassuolo, rising through the club’s ranks at youth level before graduating to the senior squad in 2012. He has been especially impressive this season but the main question arises—should the Reds make a move for the Italian this summer?
Liverpool are expected to sign a new forward, irrespective of having a well-oiled, destructive front-three in Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino. However, they recently revealed that Daniel Sturridge is on the list of players who will be released in the summer and will need a replacement.
Sturridge was scintillating to watch in the 2013-14 season alongside Luis Suarez, but injuries and lack of opportunities when fit in the last few years has seen his career stagnate at Liverpool. At 29, he desperately needs a fresh start to revive his career and Liverpool are indeed right to release him this summer.
While Sturridge will leave, Divock Origi will be hopeful that the starring role he played for the Reds in the second half of this past season will help him replace the former England international. And while Liverpool must tie down Origi to a new contract, Jurgen Klopp’s lack depth in the attack when compared to Premier League champions Manchester City and that should prompt him to buy a new forward.
Sassuolo’s Domenico Berardi is a right winger by trade, but he can play anywhere along the front-line, and he would provide fantastic competition for the Reds’ current front three. Excellent with the ball and without it, the 24-year-old is a player who works extremely hard, can take dangerous positions and pick the right passes in the final third.
He makes up for his lack of aerial prowess with his intricate first touch, fantastic technical abilities on the ball and clever link-up play. The Italian is also a composed finisher in front of goal and operates with a certain kind of directness that would see him slot perfectly into Klopp’s system at Anfield.

A highly versatile customer, Berardi would give the Reds a lot of attacking flair and add depth to the squad to challenge again for the Premier League title next season.
Verdict
Liverpool are already a formidable side and they need to continue investing in the squad to build a strong platform for continued success and the acquisition of Berardi could work wonders for the Reds in the years to come.
