Tottenham Prediction: Probable XI to face Southampton in the FA Cup
Tottenham and Southampton once again face off for a place in the fifth round of the FA Cup.
Spurs looked to be heading through as they led 1-0 at St Mary’s thanks to a Heung-min Son goal, but Sofiane Boufal’s late strike earned the Saints a replay. Jose Mourinho’s side will be looking to build on Sunday’s 2-0 triumph over Manchester City.
Meanwhile, Southampton have been in good form of late, although they’ll head into this contest on the back of a 4-0 league defeat to Liverpool.
Team News
After several minutes of treatment on a foot injury sustained against Manchester City, Dele Alli was able to continue. However, the midfielder eventually had to be withdrawn, making him a major doubt for the game.
Ben Davies is continuing his rehabilitation from a foot problem while new signing Steven Bergwijn is ineligible as he joined the club after the initial tie had been played.
Tottenham Prediction: Probable XI
Formation: 4-2-3-1
Hugo Lloris (GK)
A clean sheet against Man City on Sunday should have given Lloris a lot of confidence. He’ll be between the sticks in the FA Cup game against Southampton.
Serge Aurier (RB)
Aurier continues to blow hot and cold but with Walker-Peters having joined Southampton on loan until the end of the season, the Ivorian is certain to keep his place at right-back.
Toby Alderweireld (CB)
A leader at the back, Alderweireld will be looking to keep the in-form Ings at bay on Wednesday.
Davinson Sanchez (CB)
Alongside Alderweireld in central defence, Sanchez helped Tottenham keep a clean sheet against Man City at the weekend. The duo will retain their place in Mourinho’s starting XI.
Japhet Tanganga (LB)
Tanganga started at left-back against Man City, despite being a centre-back. However, the youngster was still excellent against the reigning Premier League champions and should start on Wednesday.
Harry Winks (CM)
A clever player, Winks will be tasked to break Southampton’s attacks and keep things ticking over in midfield.
Gedson Fernandes (CM)
Partnering Winks in the middle of the park will be Gedson, who will be looking to make a strong impression against the Saints.
Erik Lamela (RW)
Lamela is a tricky winger who can cause problems to Southampton’s backline with his pace and movement. He’ll start on the right flank.
Giovani Lo Celso (CAM)
Lo Celso has been excellent of late, adding a lot of energy and creativity to Spurs’ midfield. The Argentinean will be key in opening up the Saints’ defence.
Son Heung-min (LW)
Son has scored in the last two games and will be keen to get on the score sheet again. The South Korean is one of the first names on Mourinho’s team sheet.
