The two worlds are totally different and you will start from the Axiom realm. While you complete your campaign, you will be teleported to the dangerous realm, Umbral. Throughout your journey, you will be traveling to both Umbral and Axiom realms.
Axiom is your base location and here you can find many NPCs and characters. While you invade the Umbral, the real challenge begins against monsters. Lords of the Fallen Dual Reality World – Everything You Need to Know
After completing the tutorial parts, you will directly spawn in Axiom. As soon as you land in Axiom, you will meet some NPCs. The challenges here in Axiom are played in normal difficulty levels. While you explore the Axiom, you can find many inhabitants of Mournestead like soliders, predators and cultists. Axiom is safe to explore, but you should be watchful of Umbral enemies as they can invade your locations everytime.
Umbral Lamp, the quest item will be your starting equipment and this is your key to enter the dark world, Umbral Lamp. Whenever Umbral enemies step inside the Axiom, you can activate the light and land in the other world. Umbral Lamp is also used to Soulflay objects in the Umbral Realm and it can be used to solve puzzles, activate bridges and structures.
Exploring the Umbral realm in Lords of the Fallen is tricky, but there’s no other way as you have to step inside and slay demonic monsters to wipe out the darkness. You will fight against higher difficulty level enemies and even hallucinations will be activated. The Umbral Realm is full of horrors and demons. The lamp is your only savior and you can even unlock treasure chests.
The Umbral Realm has lots of traps and thorns in terrains, bridges, grounds and other locations. You can continue your journey with a friend in this realm. After that, you will be a Lampbearer in both realms and surviving against the dark force will be a challenge. You can reach from one location to the other through a tool named Umbral Rifting. Umbral Rifting is a Lantern and it’s mainly used to teleport to the Umbral realm world.

Surviving in Umbral Realm
Whenever you are eliminated in Axiom or if you find an enemy with the Lamp, you will be directly teleported to the other world. You will lose all your xp after getting eliminated. To return to Axiom, you can find Vestiges, the checkpoints of the game. At Vestiges, you can relax and sleep, save your progress using savepoints and upgrade characters. You can exit from Umbral via the Emergency Effigies or Vestige Seedlings.
Managing your journey between two realms is never easy in Lords of the Fallen. So, you have to maximize your health and shields, use the strongest weapons and accumulate as many as quest items. These serve as a key to slaying monsters and creatures.
Understanding the combat techniques is essential and it helps you master every combat. Overcoming obstacles in Umbral Realm is another challenge and this can be done with quest items. Interact with NPCs and collect every quest item. Utilize spells and status effects to negate enemy’s attacks.
