Chelsea snatched a late 1-0 win against Slavia Prague in a rather edgy tie at the Eden Arena. Chelsea were extremely shoddy and careless on the ball for most of the match and didn’t really offer any kind of creativity going forward right from the opening minutes of the game.
It was finally in the 85th minute that they broke the deadlock thanks to a leaping header from Spanish full-back Marcos Alonso. The goal came as the Slavia defenders began to look tired despite the home side looking the more likely one to score across both halves but instead, they’ll have to travel to London and find a couple of goals at Stamford Bridge.
Here are the Chelsea Player Ratings:
The Spaniard didn’t have a whole lot to do but was superb whenever his talents were required by the Blues’ defence.
Struggled to come into the game and didn’t really offer any kind of positive attacking width.
The German was crucial in defence for the blues as he dominated all the aerial duels that he entered into.
The young Dane had a decent game in the middle of the park and wasn’t really troubled too much at any point.
Despite getting the only goal of the night, Alonso was quite poor going forward and didn’t link-up well with Willian at all.
Looked extremely dreary on the ball and didn’t really provide much control in the middle of the park.
Wasn’t his usual controlling self and wasn’t allowed a moment of peace by the Slavia defenders.
The Englishman did well in the latter stages but didn’t have any sort of impact in the first half.
The Spaniard has an absolute horror show in the Czech Republic as he seemed to be completely out of touch.
Got no support from any of the midfield players and didn’t have anyone to back him up when he won headers.
Although he was another player who seemed to be missing a spark on the night, it was his cross that led to the goal.
Sparked the Blues into life after coming on and showed once again that he’s a class above everyone else at Stamford Bridge.
Was a pure bundle of energy after coming and really did show off his immense stamina with some good pressing.
