Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic has found himself in hot water after receiving his 16th technical foul of the season during a game on Sunday.
Doncic is widely regarded as one of the most talented young basketball players in the world, with a remarkable ability to read the game and make decisive plays. However, his fiery temper has occasionally landed him in trouble on the NBA court. In fact, this is not the first time he has been charged with a technical foul this season.
The incident in question occurred when Doncic expressed his dissatisfaction with a no-call that had been correctly judged during a post-game video review. Crew Chief Kevin Scott, who oversaw the game, reported that Doncic used profanity directed at the officials to protest the decision.
Doncic will be compelled to sit out of the Mavericks’ upcoming game against the Indiana Pacers on Monday night if the NBA officials do not overrule the technical foul.
The suspension of Luka Doncic due to his 16th technical foul comes at a crucial time for the Dallas Mavericks, who are tied with the Oklahoma City Thunder for 10th place in the Western Conference and at risk of missing the playoffs.
The Mavericks have lost two of their last three games to the Charlotte Hornets, and will need to turn things around quickly if they want to keep their postseason hopes alive.
Luka Doncic fouls
After the game on Sunday, Mavericks coach Jason Kidd expressed his belief that the technical foul handed to Luka Doncic was unjustified and called for it to be revoked.
With a total of 16, Luka Doncic has received the third-most technical fouls in the NBA this season. Only Dillon Brooks of the Memphis Grizzlies (18) and Trae Young of the Atlanta Hawks (17) have received more technical fouls than Doncic.
It’s worth noting that Doncic did not speak to reporters after the game, which is unusual for a player of his caliber. It’s possible that he was frustrated by the technical foul and wanted to avoid saying something that could further worsen the situation.
Another possibility is that he was given the go-ahead by his team’s management to hold off on speaking to the media until the NBA made a judgment regarding the technical.
