The talented Alycia Parks takes on Austria’s Julia Grabher in the round of 32 of the 2023 Lyon Open on Tuesday.
The 22-year-old finished the 2022 season on a great high as she won back-to-back titles in the WTA Angers Arena Loire Open and the WTA Limoges Open.
She has not had the best of starts in 2023. Parks played in the recently-concluded Australian Open. After defeating Alexandra Bozovic in the first round of qualifying, she lost to Sara Bejlek in the second round of qualifying. The big-serving youngster had 21 double faults against her name in the two matches she played and would hope to bring the number of double faults down in the coming games to have a better chance of winning. She fared better in the doubles event though. Teaming with Oksana Kalashnikova, she reached the third round.
The 26-year-old got off to a good start in the season as she defeated Tereza Martincova in the first round of the ASB Classic, in a match where she made 10 double faults. Her campaign ended with a loss against third seed Leylah Fernandez in the round of 16.
Grabher failed to qualify for the main draw at Hobart International. She lost to Kaja Kuvan in the first round of qualifying. In the Australian Open, she crashed out in the first round after losing to 16th seed Anett Kontaveit.
Alycia Parks has a 1-0 lead in the head-to-head scoreline against Julia Grabher. The American youngster won their only previous encounter in 2021 in an ITF event.
Prediction: Alycia Parks to win in three sets.
