The talented Alycia Parks faces the experienced Maryna Zanevska in the semifinals of the 2023 Lyon Open on Saturday.
The 22-year-old has now won 14 out of her last 15 matches. She is all set to play her biggest semifinal. Parks will also move up to No. 72 on the rankings after her quarter-final victory.
The American youngster showed toward the latter half of 2022 that she is one player that tennis fans must keep an eye on. In the first round, she defeated Julia Grabher in three sets 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 to get her campaign going. She followed it up with a memorable come-from-behind win against the experienced Petra Martic. The match ended 2-6, 7-6 (7-3), 6-2. In the quarterfinals, Parks beat 7th seed Danka Kovinic in straight sets 7-5, 6-2. Parks converted 4 out of 5 break points in the encounter.
The Belgian star has been on song in the tournament thus far. She has managed to reach the semifinals for the first time this season.
The 29-year-old began with a win against Dalma Galfi in two contrasting sets. The first set was comprehensively won by Zanevska but the second set was a tight affair. The match eventually ended 6-1, 7-6 (7-3) in favor of the world No. 93. In the round of 16, Zanevska notched up a memorable win as she made light work of Zhang Shuai. The Chinese veteran had no answer to Zanevska’s consistency as she lost 2-6, 6-0.
The head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 0-0 as the two players have never crossed paths as yet.
