7th seed Danka Kovinic takes on the talented Alycia Parks in the quarterfinals of the 2023 Lyon Open on Friday.
The 28-year-old started the season on a bright note as she made it to the semifinals of the ASB Classic. She couldn’t carry the momentum into the Australian Open, as she lost in the first round to Lauren Davis in a match where the Montenegrin committed 8 double faults.
In the round of 32 of the Thailand Open, Kovinic started strongly as she defeated Viktorija Golubic in a one-sided encounter. The match ended in straight sets 6-1, 6-4. In the round of 16, Kovinic came back from a set down to defeat Anna Bonar 4-6, 6-2, 6-3. Kovinic was particularly good with her serves as she had a win percentage of 75. She will be going up against one of the best servers in women’s tennis at the moment.
The talented American youngster lost in the second round of qualifying at the Australian Open. She has made a good comeback in the Lyon Open.
In the first round, Parks won a closely-contested match against Julia Grabher. Parks did not have her best game in terms of serving as she committed 7 double faults. However, she did enough to win the match 6-3, 5-7, 6-4. In the round of 16, Parks bounced back after losing the first set against 4th seed Petra Martic. Parks fired in 12 aces and had a win percentage of 75.
