The 28-year-old had a fine campaign in the ASB Classic. She made it to the semifinals with wins against Nao Hibino, Lauren Davis, and Viktoria Kuzmova. Her run ended with a loss to top seed and eventual champion Coco Gauff.

The Australian Open, on the other hand, turned out to be a disappointment for Kovinic as she crashed out in the first round following a loss to Lauren Davis. After winning the first set comprehensively, Kovinic was outplayed as the match went on and she eventually lost 6-1, 5-7, 1-6.

Viktorija Golubic

The experienced campaigner is yet to win a match in the main draw of the singles events that she has played this season.

She began with an exit in the first round of the Adelaide International 1 against Sorana Cirstea. She defeated Alison Riske-Amritraj and Storm Sanders to reach the main draw. In Hobart International, she lost in the first round of qualifying to Kateryna Baindl. At the Australian Open, the 30-year-old was ousted by Petra Martic in the first round in straight sets. She has fared well in the doubles circuit, reaching the finals in Hobart and the third round at the Australian Open.

The head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 1-0 in favor of Danka Kovinic. She defeated Golubic in their only previous meeting in the 2018 Samsung Open in three sets.
