Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik will face the challenge of Daniel Galan in the opening round of the Madrid Masters
Alexander Bublik is coming to Madrid at the back of some disastrous form which has seen him suffer first round elimination from three consecutive tournaments in Barcelona, Monte Carlo and Miami.
Last week, Bublik lost in the first round of the Barcelona Open to Email Ruusuvuori 0-6, 3-6 and is coming into this match desperately looking for some positive result. His best performance so far this season came at the Open 13, where he reached the Semi-finals but eventually lost to top seed Hubert Hurkacz.
Bublik has fell down 16 places in the ATP rankings since the start of the new season and is currently ranked No.46 in men’s singles. He achieved his career-best ranking of No.30 last year but doesn’t seem to be anywhere near his best form at the moment. The Kazakh star will be hoping to turn things around in Madrid and put up an impressive display for the remainder of the season.
Daniel Galan’s form coming into the match at Madrid Open
Colombia’s Daniel Galan is more active in the Challenger Series and not so much of a regular on the ATP tour. He is coming to Madrid after an impressive display at the Sarasota Challenger tournament, where he finished as runners-up. On the ATP tour, he did well at the recently concluded Houston Open, reaching the Round of 16 stage. However, in most other ATP tournaments this year, he suffered first round exits. The 26-year-old will certainly face an uphill task against Bublik in Madrid.

Head to head and Predictions
Bublik and Galan have played each other once before on the ATP tour. The Russian emerged victorious on that occasion in 2022 at the Miami Open in Florida and leads the overall head-to-head 1-0. Bublik is undoubtedly the favourite going into this match, both in terms of experience and rankings. We are expecting a comfortable, straight sets victory for Bublik in this encounter.
