No.3 seed Jessica Pegula will face Veronika Kudermetova in quarter-finals of the Madrid Open
Jessica Pegula is having a crazy year which has already seen her losing one WTA final – the Qatar Open besides suffering three semi-final exits – the Dubai Tennis Championships, the Miami Open and the Charleston Open. She is desperate to break this jinx in Madrid and is well on course so far.
She has dropped only one set thus far at the Madrid Open and has looked in sublime touch. The No.3 seed is coming into this match following a 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 win over 18th seed Martina Trevisan and has her eyes set on the prestigious title.
Kudermetova came to Madrid at the back of three consecutive first round exits in her previous tournaments. Despite being a seeded player in all the events, the Russian wasn’t quite able to live up to expectations. Her best performance so far this year came at the Qatar Open earlier this year in February. She had an incredible run to the final but eventually lost to top seed Iga Swiatek finished as runners-up.
She made a good start at the Madrid Open registering a commendable 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 win over Nuria Parrizas-Diaz in her first encounter. The Russian then got the better of her compatriot Anastasia Potapova followed by another victory against fellow Russian and No.8 seed Daria Kasatkina. Kudermetova is seeded No.12 in Madrid and she will be aiming to go deep into the tournament. It remains to be seen if the Russian can continue her good run and cause an upset against the much-fancied Jessica Pegula.

Zapata Miralles and Tsitsipas have never played each other before on the ATP tour. This is the first professional head to head clash between the two players. Tsitsipas is the outright favourite going into this match both in terms of form and rankings. It will be a tough ask for Zapata Miralles in this encounter but he is expected to pose a tough challenge. However, we predict the Greek star to see off the Spaniard’s challenge and win comfortably in straight sets.
