Novak Djokovic and Gael Monfils will lock horns at the Manolo Santana on Tuesday for their Round of 32 clash at the Madrid Open 2022.
The World No. 1 has had a rather underwhelming 2022 so far. Djokovic has competed in only three tournaments prior to the Madrid Open and is yet to win a title this year. The 20-time Grand Slam winner recently reached the final of the Serbia Open but suffered defeat against Russia’s Andrey Rublev at the final hurdle.
All of Djokovic’s last five matches have gone to three sets, and in two of those third sets he has bombed badly.
Monfils has had a decent start this year by winning the Adelaide 1 title in January. However, the Frenchman has struggled to replicate any further success ever since.
At the Madrid Open round of 64, he breezed past Spanish wild card Gimeno Valero 6-3, 6-0 to set up a mouthwatering clash vs Djokovic. There is no doubt that Monfils will carry bags of confidence into the match vs Djokovic on Tuesday.
