Australia’s Alex de Minaur will take on Marco Cecchinato in the Round of 64 at the Madrid Open

Alex de Minaur has had a stellar 2023 so far and he will be high on confidence coming into this tournament. The major highlight of his season has been the title-winning campaign at the Acapulco Open, where he defeated top seeds like Holger Rune and Tommy Paul in the process of being crowned the champion.

The Australian has been very consistent this year and is coming to Madrid following a commendable quarter-finals finish at the recently concluded Barcelona Open.

de Minaur is the No.16 seed in the tournament and received a ‘Bye’ in the Round of 128. The 24-year-old has been in sublime touch and will be aiming to go deep into the tournament. However, he can certainly expect a tough challenge in his first-round encounter against Cecchinato.

Marco Cecchinato’s form coming into the match at Madrid Open

Marco Cecchinato is not a regular on the ATP tour but he has caught the attention of the Tennis fraternity after an incredible run to the Semi-finals of the Estoril Open earlier this month. He is coming into this match after winning two rounds of qualifying matches.

In his opening clash of the main draw, Cecchinato defeated Marton Fucsovics in straight sets 7-6, 6-3. The Italian is in a good run of form and will be aiming to cause a major upset against de Minaur.

Head to head and Predictions

De Minaur and Cecchinato have played each other six times before on the ATP tour. They know each other’s game very well and all the encounters were closely fought with the head-to-head tally currently standing at 3-3.

De Minaur is the slight favourite going into this match both in terms of form and rankings, but we can certainly expect the in-form Italian to pose a tough challenge. It promises to be an intense clash and we are predicting the seeded Australian to see off Cecchinato’s challenge by winning in three sets.
