Frances Tiafoe will face the challenge of Pedro Cachin in the Round of 32 at the Madrid Open
Pedro Cachin has been in good form lately and is coming into this match at the back of two impressive victories. He began his campaign with a 6-1, 6-4 victory against Abdellah Shelbayh and then defeated compatriot Francisco Cerundolo (24th seed) in the Round of 64.
Cachin has been having a good time in Madrid and reached the finals of the Challenger Madrid event earlier this month. It will be interesting to see if Cachin can cause a major upset against the much-fancied Tiafoe.
Frances Tiafoe’s form coming into the match at Madrid Open
Frances Tiafoe is having a pretty good season thus far and is aiming to go all the way in Madrid. The American star won the ATP Houston Open earlier this month and is high on confidence. Tiafoe also did well at the Indian Wells Masters in March, reaching the semi-finals and is certainly one of the most in-form players on the ATP tour at the moment.
The World No.11 received a ‘Bye’ in the round of 128 due to his superior seeding and is coming into this match following a comfortable 6-3, 7-6 victory against Tomas Etcheverry. Tiafoe is seeded ninth in the tournament and is one of the dark horses in the competition. It remains to be seen if Tiafoe can live up to expectations and go all the way to clinch the title.

Head-to-head and predictions
Cachin and Tiafoe have never played each other before on the ATP tour. This is the first professional head to head clash between the two players. Tiafoe is the clear favourite going into this match both in terms of form and rankings. It will be a tough ask for Cachin in this encounter but he is expected to pose a tough challenge. However, we predict the American star to see off Cachin’s challenge and win comfortably in straight sets.
