Rebeka Masarova will take on No.9 seed Maria Sakkari in the Round of 32 at the Madrid Open
Rebeka Masarova is not a regular on the WTA tour but she has impressed one and all with her performances so far in Madrid. The Spaniard began her campaign with a hard-fought win in three sets against compatriot Cristina Bucsa. She followed it up with a major upset against No.20 seed Donna Vekic. The 23-year-old defeated the Croatian comprehensively in straight sets 6-1, 7-6 to set up a third round clash against Maria Sakkari.
Maria Sakkari’s form coming into the match at Madrid Open
Maria Sakkari hasn’t been in the best of touches so far this year. She has been good in patches but lacked the consistency this season and has failed to win any silverware. The ninth seed is coming into this encounter following a comprehensive 6-4, 6-4 victory against Arantxa Rus in her opening round fixture.
Sakkari will be desperate to turn things around in Madrid after two shocking first round exits in her previous two tournaments – the Miami Open and the Stuttgart Open. She will look to draw confidence from her commendable display at the Indian Wells Masters in March, when she made it to the Semi-finals. However, she can certainly expect a tough fight from the young and athletic Masarova.

Head to head and Predictions .
Masarova and Sakkari have never played each other before on the WTA tour. This is the first professional head to head clash between the two players. Sakkari is the clear favourite going into this match both in terms of experience and rankings. It will be a tough task for Masarova in this encounter but she is expected to pose a tough challenge. However, we predict the Greek star to see off Masarova’s challenge and win comfortably in straight sets.
