Top seed Carlos Alcaraz will face the challenge of Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff in the final of the Madrid Open
World No.1 Carlos Alcaraz has his eyes set on winning his fourth ATP title of the season. He has already won the Argentina Open, the Indian Wells Masters and the Barcelona Open earlier this year and is determined to win another trophy on home soil. The Spaniard has been in sublime touch and has dropped only one set so far at the Madrid Open.
He began his campaign with a hard-fought win against Emil Ruusuvuori and has brushed aside all his opponents since then. Alcaraz defeated seeded players Grigor Dimitrov (26), Alexander Zverev (13), Karen Khachanov (10) to progress to the Semi-finals of the tournament. He then defeated Croatia’s Borna Coric in a comprehensive fashion to reach the summit clash of the tournament.
Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff has been on a fairy-tale run at the Madrid Open. The 33-year-old overcame two rounds of qualifying to make it to the main draw and he doesn’t look in the mood to stop. Struff beat Lorenzo Sonego in his first match of the main draw and followed it up with a commendable victory against No.32 seed Ben Shelton.
He then got the better of Pedro Cachin before pulling off a major upset against 4th seed Stefanos Tsitsipas in the quarter-finals. He came back from a set down to win his semi-final clash against Aslan Karatsev and set up a final clash against the top seed Carlos Alcaraz. Struff has been in really good touch, and it remains to be seen if he can register a famous victory in the final.

Alcaraz and Struff have played each other twice before on the ATP tour. They know each other’s game very well and both the previous encounters were closely fought with the head-to-head tally currently standing at 1-1. On paper, Alcaraz is the outright favourite going into this match both in terms of form and rankings, but we can certainly expect the German to pose a tough challenge. It promises to be an intense clash and we are predicting a win in three sets for Carlos Alcaraz.
